***Jack Lemmon’s Gift from Ed Sullivan***
Jack Lemmon letter to Mrs. Nancy L. Reisner March 9, 1978. (Letter Included)…..
Dear Mrs. Reisner,
First of all, my apologies for being unable to reply to your letter sooner, but I have been out of the city filming in various locations for over a month.
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus! Indeed, that ’55 T-Bird once belonged to me and your letter brought back many lovely memories. I don’t think I ever enjoyed a material object more than I did that car. (And, I’m delighted to hear that it is still functioning well.)
Richard Carter, who purchased it from me, is still my business associate and his story that I received the car in lieu of cash payment for an appearance on the Ed Sullivan show is absolutely correct. (I was told at the time that the car was one of the first, if not the very first, to be delivered in California)
I’m sure you are well aware that if and when you do consider selling it, and assuming it’s in good condition, it will probably be quite valuable. They were beautifully made cars on the whole, and to the best of my knowledge it should be quite a collectors item. At any rate, I’m delighted that the car is in your hands and that you truly enjoy it.
My many thanks for your letter, and my very best wishes to you and yours. (And the T-Bird, too)
Most Sincerely,
Jack Lemmon
